Freshmen Orientation Day Set for August 22nd

Freshmen Orientation Day Set for August 22nd
By Shannon Smith

Greene Central High School will be holding its fourth annual Freshman Orientation day on Friday, August 22.
The event will start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m.
Mrs. Maryellen Deans, a social studies teacher at the school, will be hosting this event. She will be assisted by math teacher Jenny Blizzard.
The day will begin with breakfast for the upcoming freshmen. This will be followed by several activities that will help the upcoming freshmen become more prepared for their first day of high school.
The freshmen will be taken to a student panel where they will be given the opportunity to ask upperclassmen questions about student life at Greene Central.
In addition the freshmen will have student identifications made for the 2008-2009 school year.
After these sessions the students will go through an abbreviated school day. Time will also be prepared for the students to have a short navigator session where they will spend time in their homeroom.
The rising freshmen will then spend some time in their first, second, third, and fourth period classes.
“My Freshmen Orientation day really prepared me for my upcoming year. It let me get to know my teachers, and most importantly kept me from getting lost my first day,” commented freshman Dena Turnage.
A fashion show might also be in the works. The possible fashion show would include clothing appropriate for the 2008-2009 school year dress code.
“A smooth transition from middle school to high school is essential in the success of our ninth graders,” commented Deans.
