Hoelz Named Student of the Week
Hoelz Named Student of the WeekBy Shannon Smith Ashley Hoelz has been selected as Greene Central's Student of the Week for the first week of June. Hoelz was nominated by Katie Mullins and received this recognition because she is very determined in whatever she sets her mind to. "Ashley is a very strong, determined, and motivated student. Once she sets her mind to do something, she will follow it through till the end, regardless of what may stand in her path," commented Mullins. This semester Hoelz is taking Tech Math II, Graphics I, Civics and Economics, and Teen Living. "My favorite class is Tech Math II with Mrs. Mullins. I love Mrs. Mullins and I've always had a love for math," said Hoelz. Hoelz would like to attend Pratt Institute in New York after she graduates. "I've always been very creative, and Pratt has the best graphic design program. Every since I was little, I've liked designing stuff. I was even using my popsicle sticks when I was little to make stuff," commented Hoelz. For her community service hours, Hoelz helps the elderly in her community by mowing their grass and walking their dogs. Hoelz is also active in the Beta Club and is the wrestling team's manager. "I really want to wrestle next year. The boys all taught me moves, and being the only girl in my weight class, I'd also be the tallest, so that would put me at the big advantage. I'm really looking forward to it," stated Hoelz. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, hanging out with friends, and reading. She also attends Tabernacle Baptist Church. "My grandpa taught me how to play the piano and it's something that was special between us. I really enjoy playing. I also like to read old classics like Edgar Allen Poe.
She is the daughter of Sharon Runtas of Walstonburg.
